1. Let Your Child Paint a Pumpkin

Instead of carving pumpkins, let your child paint their pumpkin masterpiece. It’s a less messy and creative way for them to express themselves. Provide some brushes, paint, and aprons, and watch as they turn their pumpkin into a vibrant work of art.

2. Go on a Nature Walk

Take a stroll through a local park or nature trail and collect colorful leaves, acorns, and pinecones. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the beauty of fall and teach your kids about nature. Plus, these treasures make great crafts later on. Our favorite spots are Conestee and Paris Mountain!

3. Bake Fall Treats

Get cozy in the kitchen and bake some delicious fall treats. Apple pie, pumpkin muffins, or cinnamon cookies are perfect for little hands to help with. The best part? Enjoying your tasty creations together.

4. Make S’mores

Whether you’re gathered around a bonfire or making them in the oven, s’mores are a quintessential fall treat. For a bonfire, roast marshmallows over the open flames and sandwich them between graham crackers and chocolate. If you’re staying in, layer the ingredients on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven. It’s a fun way to enjoy a sweet treat with your family.

5. Create Leaf Art

Use those beautiful leaves you collected on your nature walk to make some fun and creative leaf art. Glue them onto paper to create leaf animals or simply press them between the pages of a book for a lovely keepsake. This is such a simple and fun activity!

6. Visit a Local Farm

Many local farms offer fall activities like hayrides, corn mazes, and petting zoos. It’s a fantastic way to spend a day outdoors and make some lasting memories with your little ones. A favorite here in the upstate is Denver Downs. For apples, my family goes to Jeter Mountain every year in North Carolina. It’s worth the drive!

7. Read Fall Books

Curl up with a stack of fall-themed books and read together. Stories about pumpkins, falling leaves, and harvest time will capture your kids’ imaginations and bring the magic of fall to life. Here are our family’s absolutely favorite fall books:

  1. Sharing the Bread by Pat Zietlow Miller
  2. In November by Cynthia Rylant
  3. Thanksgiving in the Woods by Phyllis Alsdurf
  4. Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson
  5. Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert

8. Have a Picnic

Pack a picnic basket with your favorite fall snacks and head to a nearby park for a lovely outdoor meal. Don’t forget to bring a cozy blanket and enjoy the beautiful fall scenery.

9. Create a Fall Sensory Bin

Making a fall sensory bin is a fantastic way to let your kids explore the textures and colors of the season. Here’s what you’ll need:

Mix all these items in the sensory bin and let your kids explore! It’s a fun and educational activity that encourages sensory play and creativity.

10. Host a Fall Playdate

Invite your kids’ friends over for a fall-themed playdate. Set up a mini pumpkin decorating station, make caramel apples, or have a leaf pile jumping contest. It’s a great way for everyone to enjoy the season together.

Fall is the perfect season to slow down and cherish the moments with your little ones. Whether you’re exploring the great outdoors or cozying up at home, these activities are sure to create beautiful memories that you’ll treasure forever.

Remember, it’s all about enjoying the simple joys of the season and spending quality time with your kids. So grab your favorite fall sweater, a warm cup of coffee, and dive into these fun activities with your family.

Happy Fall!

Elly M.

Until next time!
