Delivering at Greenville Memorial Hospital | Mom of Four

As a mom of four, I’ve seen my fair share of delivery rooms, and my recent experience at Greenville Memorial Hospital added another chapter to that story. If you’re looking for a no-nonsense, honest take on what it’s like to deliver there, keep reading.

Fourth Baby, Fourth Hospital

I’ve never delivered in the same hospital twice, thanks to life’s little adventures and a few too many moves. So when it was time to have baby number four, Greenville Memorial was next on my list. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t perfect, but there were some things they got right.

The Complications

Let’s start with the drama—my placenta ruptured. Not what you want to hear when you’re in labor, right? But here’s where I appreciated Greenville Memorial Hospital. Instead of immediately pushing for a C-section, they allowed me to be monitored closely, giving me the chance to deliver vaginally like I’d hoped. Thankfully, it worked out, and they handed me my baby almost as soon as she was out. That’s a win in my book.

Midwifery Care

I was under the care of Greenville Midwifery, and they were the real MVPs of this experience. They listened to me, respected my wishes, and guided me through a very intense situation. I’ve got more to say about them in another post because they deserve it. You can read about that experience HERE.

Friendly Staff, So-So Food

The staff at Greenville Memorial were genuinely friendly, which made the whole process easier. But let’s be real—the food was nothing to write home about. If you’re looking for gourmet, you won’t find it here. Maybe pack a snack or two.

Diaper Rationing?

Now, here’s something I didn’t expect: diapers were on “lockdown.” Unlike other hospitals where they practically hand them out like candy, here they were keeping a tight grip. If you’re planning to deliver here, maybe stash a few extras in your bag.

Noisy Nights

One downside to Greenville Memorial is the noise level at night. Between the speaker calls, helicopters, and general hospital commotion, sleep was hard to come by. It’s a busy hospital, and it definitely felt that way, especially when all you want is a little peace and quiet after giving birth.

Quick Exit

On the plus side, they didn’t keep us long. We were out of there within 24 hours, and the discharge process was smooth. After a rough start, getting home quickly was a relief.

Would I deliver at Greenville Memorial again?

Maybe. The care was solid, and they respected my wishes during a tricky situation, but there were definitely some drawbacks. It’s not the quietest place, and the food leaves something to be desired, but at the end of the day, my baby and I were well taken care of. That’s what matters most.

Most Forgotten Items to Pack for a Natural Hospital Delivery

Let’s talk about packing. With everything on your mind, it’s easy to forget the little things. Here are a few items that I wish I had remembered (or was really glad I did) for a natural hospital delivery:

  1. Peri Bottle – The hospital may provide one, but a good angled peri bottle like this one makes all the difference.
  2. Lip Balm – Labor can really dry you out. Don’t forget your favorite lip balm, like this one.
  3. Comfortable Nursing Gown – Skip the hospital gown and bring your own comfy option. I love this nursing gown for comfort and easy access.
  4. Portable Fan – Hospitals can be stuffy, and labor is no joke. A small, portable fan can be a lifesaver.
  5. Snacks – Hospital food might not cut it, so pack some of your favorite snacks. Think protein bars or dried fruit like these snacks.
